The Tragically Hip at the Junos
  • The Tragically Hip, often just referred to as The Hip, was started in 1983 by Gord Downie. 

 

  • The Hip’s members included Rob Baker, Johnny Fay, Gord Sinclair, Paul Langlois, and Gordon Downie. The band started in their hometown of Kingston, Ontario. 

 

  • In 1987 they signed a long-term record deal with MCA and released their debut album. 

  • Three years later, in 1990 the band won their first Juno award. In the following years, they would win more than a dozen Junos.

 

  • The Tragically Hip was inducted to the Canadian Music Hall of Fame in 2005. 

 

  • The Tragically Hip retired in 2017 following Gord’s death.

  • Over their 32-year career, The Tragically Hip produced 14 albums and sold millions of records.
